What To Expect
Thinking of attending a Sunday service? We’d love to meet you. Here’s a little of what you can expect…
We know it can be a little unnerving to step into a new thing, especially when you’re not exactly sure about the details that matter to you. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about the church to give you a picture of what Kaleo looks like week to week and hopefully address issues important to you.
What kind of people make up Kaleo?
What you’ll encounter when you attend Kaleo is a diverse biblical community where people seek to know and love God, live in community with others and transform the world by serving our city as we think Jesus would. Practically speaking, that means the some of us are just checking out Christianity for the first time, while others have been in church their whole lives. Kaleo members span all different ethnicities, ages and backgrounds. Everyone is welcome.
What if I’m not used to going to church?
You are the reason we started Kaleo. Kaleo wants to be a comfortable place for those who are curious about God but have never felt comfortable in church. We want Kaleo to be a place where you can learn, apply and wrestle with who God is and what He wants for you. It’s okay if you don’t have it all figured out yet.
What will the worship service be like?
Kaleo has always been a place where we keep it very simple. It’s relaxed but focused. We don’t need to be flashy or put on big productions for people to meet God. We believe that Jesus is enough. Here’s what you can expect during a typical worship gathering:
Singing
During the Gathering, our worship team will lead us in a number of songs. Kaleo strives to balance new, original music with some of the great hymns of our faith. As we sing our focus is not ourselves or the people around us, but telling Jesus how much we love Him. So no matter what kind of voice you have, sing out with all of your heart.
Teaching
At Kaleo, we believe that the Bible is God’s gift to us to show us who He is and what He’s done for us. Every week, Pastor Bill teaches straight from the Bible in a way that is helpful and challenging. If you don’t have a copy of the Bible with you, we have a copy under each seat – feel free to use one of ours. If you don’t own your own Bible, please take one of ours home as our gift to you.
Prayer
One of the greatest privileges we have as followers of Jesus is being able pray with boldness and confidence. We’ll pray together throughout our time this morning. Also, if you would like to have someone pray for you this morning, any of our pastors would be honored to pray with you after the worship gathering – you’ll find them up front, waiting to serve you.
Communion
Communion is something that Jesus began the night before he died as a way for his followers to remember and participate in his death on the cross. At Kaleo, we celebrate communion together every week after the message. Kaleo welcomes all Christians who actively trust Jesus for salvation, who are willing to turn away from their sin to receive communion with us. Each week, families and groups of friends come forward and serve each other a small bit of bread and wine as a way of participating in and identifying with the body and blood of Jesus.
Giving
If you are our guest, please do not feel obligated to give anything financially – we just ask that you place the communication card attached to your bulletin in the offering as your gift to us. During the time of response after the message, please feel free to give as God leads you in one of the offering containers at the sides of the worship space.
What should I wear?
At Kaleo, you’re welcome to wear whatever you’d like. There is no set dress code, although the attire is more on the casual side. Just be you.
What about my kids?
Kaleo is a family-friendly environment. We believe that children are a blessing from God and are a vital part of every local church. Children 4 and under are welcome in our Kaleo Kids area, staffed by an amazing team of safe and loving volunteers. Children over 4 join us in the worship gathering and each receive their very own Kaleo Kids binder to help them participate in worship. We know that having kids in worship with us brings some extra “kid noise” with is – and we like it that way. We love having families with kids of all ages worshiping together with us!
Can I invite my friends?
Please do. We seek to be a welcoming environment for people who are curious about Christianity or who are seeking to belong to a community of believers.
